[A][C]quisition [O]f [R]estored [N]ative [S]peech

The ACORNS project supports the language revitalization efforts of Native American tribes. The acorn is sacred to the tribes of Northern California and Southern Oregon who helped start this project, so the name ACORNS, is chosen in their honor. This being said, all of this software is freely downloadable and useable for any non-profit use. The applications are language-independent; in other words, they are appropriate tools to facilitate the learning of any language.

Language teachers and their students use the desktop/laptop version of ACORNS to create language lessons which, when executed, enhance language learning. ACORNS can automatically generate Web pages and mobile versions that students can execute using the Apple and Android ACORNS gallery applications. Additional ACORNS software projects are introduced below

[W]ord [O]riented [L]inguistic [F]ramework

WOLF provides a framework for creating indigenous dictionaries. The software supports dictionaries with multiple languages and dialects, searching and sorting, import and export facilities, generation of web-pages and pdf documents, integration with the ACORNS mobile gallery applications, multimedia attachments, and IPA phonetics. The interface has an EXCEL feel, but geared for use by linguists.

HARE ([H]euristic [A]udio [E]ditor and [R]ecorder

HARE is an audio editing application for creating and editing sound recordings. Audio editing features include the ability to copy, cut, paste, and alter volume or playback speed. It also supports attaching text annotations to sections of audio recordings.

[E]xtended [L]inquistic [K]eyboards

Elk is used to create indigenous TTF fonts to accommodate indigenous keyboard layouts. ELK also can be used to create keyboard mappings by using the MAC standard XML-based keylayout format. A second ELK application ELKKeyboards, is a windows-based application that makes use of the keyboard mappings created by ELK.
